I have been a reader of Joystiq for a long time, but the quality of recent posts have been on the decline. First it was over-hyping news, then it was making ridiculously stupid economic analogies with needless Latin, and now its over-analyzing press screenshot examples. Recently, Nintendo released some more screenshots highlighting features of the Wii. The screenshot in question is this one:

The picture is used to show how the Wii can be used to leave notes. Sure it’s not a great example, I mean it’s even kind of silly. But who really cares? But analyzing and critiquing this press release, as Vladimir Cole (Chief Idiot) from Joystiq did, was mind bogglingly stupid. The text follows:

Ridiculous!

Tommy’s looking for ice cream. Being a smart little blighter, he checks his console first? Not. The pudgy little bastard will run straight to the fridge (or freezer), where such things are normally kept.

Second, Mom’s about to head out on an errand. There is no future scenario sans voice recognition that has dear old Mum entering her note with a Wiimote. It will always be easier for her to pick up a scrap of paper and a pencil to do this sort of task. Furthermore, Tommy’s mother seems to be one of those obsessive-compulsive notaries, given that she felt the need to leave a note about the location of ice cream. Therefore, she’s probably left notes for everyone else in the family. Did she leave all of those notes on the console?

In short: ain’t gonna happen.

This is one of the stupidest things I have ever read. Is a note from Mom about ice cream a good example? No. But it does not warrant this rediculous level of criticism. It’s not a piece of functionality you have to use. If this is the insight into the games industry a video game blog is supposed to provide, then I am way behind. Sorry Joystiq, this was strike three. Vlad, please stop sharing your thoughts with others and DIAF!
