Guitar Hero II Release Day Video Round Up

Today marks the real release of Red Octane’s smash hit followup, Guitar Hero II. Although I have decided to wait and get it for the Xbox 360, I am having a hard time not running out and buying it right now. There are tons of great songs on this game and I can’t wait to play it. Anyway, to celebrate its release, fellow blogger The Not Blogger, has put together quite an extensive list of videos from the Guitar Hero II tracklist. Enjoy!

Opening Licks
Amp Warmers
String Snappers
Thrash and Burn
Return of the Shred
Relentless Riffs
Furious Fretwork
Hidden Tracks - just a list, but added for the sake of completion

An Open Letter To Sony

Last night, I posted the news of Microsoft’s new Xbox Live TV and Movie download service. As is typical, Sony quickly responded with a PR potshot. Here is the press release, and an open letter to Sony in regards to this matter.

“PLAYSTATION 3’s content is designed for everyone to enjoy right out of the box, no matter which configuration you purchase. We would never segregate or shut out any of our consumers from our entertainment experience because they didn’t buy the top of the line system. Both PLAYSTATION 3 versions available on November 17 include hard drives for downloading content.”

Dear Sony,

I am getting sick and tired of your ridiculous arrogance and bullheaded deceptive PR talk. I would like to clarify several things for you in regards to this matter of downloadable entertainment content. From your actions, it is clear that there are still several things you do not understand.

First of all, you are mislabeling choice (good thing), with the inaccurate, negative term “segmented”. One reason, among many, that I do not want your console, is because you are forcing gamers to buy into a format that may fail. In fact, given your track record (Beta Max, UMD, Mini-Disc, Memory Stick), it probably will fail. You give me no choice in the matter, whereas Microsoft does. You use words like “segregate” and “shut out”, but if users want this service they can buy the Xbox 360 Premium, or upgrade their existing Core console with a Hard Drive. At no time will a user not be able to have this service. The point is they are not required to purchase something that they will not use.

Second of all, when referring to the “top of the line system”, you are ironically alluding to the systems cost, when the Premium Xbox 360, is still $100 less than the Core PS3. In other words, the Xbox 360’s “top of the line” is less expensive than the PS3’s “bottom shelf”. You cannot make the argument that selling two configurations are bad for the consumer, since you yourself do this.

Finally, your rebuttal makes no mention as to what content you will have to offer come November 17th, so I am forced to assume, that you won’t be delivering very much. IF I actually could find one of your systems, and IF I could afford it, I still would not buy it.

Sony, Die in a Fire!
