Sony Says Something Stupid…Again

In what’s only the latest display of Sony’s arrogance, SCEA VP Jack Tretton responds to a question on an interview with Wired with a very stupid comment.

“Do you have a response for people experiencing backwards compatibility issues and/or television upscaling problems?

I would like my car to fly and make me breakfast, but that’s an unrealistic expectation. We’ve reported problems on only 200 of the 8000 PlayStation 1 and 2 games. I would challenge the average consumer to say that there are significant problems with any of the games in their library.”

So Basically Jack, what your saying is that our hopes of Sony doing what it said it would do are paramount to an imaginary flying culinary automobile? …… OK, one Wii please.

3 Days To Go: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

When I first heard that Samus was making the jump from 2D to 3D, and that it was going to be developed by an American company (Retro Studios), I seriously thought it was going to be crap. But Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were great! They had all the great game design and gameplay that made the first 3 2D Metroids amazing. I am really looking forward to Metroid Prime 3. This time, we’ll be able to use the Wiimote to aim the arm cannon. Metroid Prime 3 is scehduled to come out in the spring.

3 days to go!

Happy Birthday Miyamoto-san!

Today is Shigeru Miyamoto’s 54th birthday! As you may or may not know, Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the greatest video game designers to have ever lived. He is the creator of the Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Star Fox, and Pikmin video game series. He has been working with Nintendo since 1980 and has made countless contributions to make Nintendo great. He is well known for his avid stance on video game quality control, his motto is “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.” So here’s a big Happy Birthday to Miyamoto-san from Big Head Mode!

The Violence Begins

As you are surely aware, Sony’s PS3 will be launching tomorrow. And whether stores run midnight sales or not, the lines are in full swing everywhere. The trouble is, when you get a lot more people waiting for something that supply cannot possibly keep up with, you are going to have a lot of angry people. Already we are seeing reports of brawls and BB gun shootings, and its only about 1 PM eastern. Unless we are lucky, I think we may see some riots and robberies. It’s an ugly state of affairs. One thing I am bracing for is the upcoming negative, and often unfounded association of violent people and video games. A lot of people will think this behaviour is attributed to people wanting the video game system, but its not the video game system that people want or makes them do crazy things. It’s the greed for the money they can get for reselling it. And greed making people do bad things is nothing new.
